👋 Hi, I am Daniel R. Torres Ruiz, a PhD Candidate at the University of Nottingham. I obtained my bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering at the University of Málaga while completing a Higher Professional Training in IT Systems and Network Administration. I am particularly interested in the nervous system and modern technology.
While studying for an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Málaga, I worked as a research assistant in IoT, cloud and edge Computing, distributed deep neural networks , computer vision, and structural health monitoring. At this stage, we published several papers. Then, I moved to the University of Salamanca where I studied for an MSc in Neuroscience.
After this rewarding experience, worked as a software engineer, NLP researcher in private companies, and a data analyst and engineer at VICOMTECH for Horizon projects and national healthcare, big data, data privacy, and synthetic data-related projects. Additionally, I also obtained an MBA from the Instituto Europeo de Alta Dirección (IEAD).
I am currently doing teaching support and conducting my PhD studies in Computer Science at the University of Nottingham, supervised by Ayşe Küçükyilmaz and Nikhil Deshpande. My research focuses on human-computer interaction with haptic devices for motor skill learning and rehabilitation. I attempt to answer whether or not haptic devices benefit the learning process of new or already-learned motor skills while investigating the possibilities of designing an adaptable system that supports the learning process for each user in different conditions.
